I Have No Plan B When It Comes To My Business

Darlene Hawley

Just after 2 years in business, I almost threw in the towel and walked away from my business. I wasn’t making money consistently and I felt like a failure.

I only have a Plan A.

I have no Plan B.

It wasn’t always this way though.

Just after 2 years in business, I almost threw in the towel and walked away from my business.

I wasn’t making money consistently and I felt like a failure.

I considered going back to retail management which is what I had done before starting my business.

But I knew what that would look like.

Long days and nights working towards someone else’s dreams and goals.

Less time with my kids.

No flexibility to take vacations because there would always be a reason why it wasn’t a good time,

And I would lose that freedom that I so craved and needed in my life, to work on my terms and in a way that felt good to me.

So I dove in and journaled for over an hour, writing with tears flowing down my face. (if I'm being honest it was a full on ugly cry)

When I had finished journaling I realized I had completely recreated the foundation to my business.

I got super clear on what type of client I wanted to serve.

I peeled back the layers and really got into my ideal client's head and knew what their biggest struggle was and what kept them up at night.

Once I got super clear I went out and had conversations with people who were my ideal client and used the words that they used to start messaging and talking directly to them.

That was when my business finally started turning around and I started getting consistent business and was able to work with dream clients.

See even though I felt like a failure. I knew in my heart that I wasn’t.

I just wasn’t showing up and saying the right things to attract my dream clients.

I was showing up how my mentors were and that didn’t work for me.  I had to do it my way, by being me.

Shortly after that day, I put together the framework that I still use today to teach clients how to grow and scale successful revenue-generating businesses that work for them.
