If you’ve hung out with me for a while, you know that I’m a planner.
I love to sit down every Friday afternoon at the end of my day to map out the upcoming week.
Sometimes that’s around noon … which means I was productive and on fire that week.
… and other weeks #lifehappens, and I’m working late into my Friday afternoon. Which means I wasn’t giving myself grace and allowing the natural ebb and flow and I ended up procrastinating.
Being a planner is partially for my sanity because I like to know what to do and when and the rest is so that I get the stuff done that isn’t client-facing work.
See I’m a people pleaser by nature so without having accountability I can easily just do the things on my schedule that are with someone else or for someone else and leave the tasks that are for me and the sustainability of my business for later. (Thankfully, I know myself, and I have a business coach, mastermind sisters and accountability partners to get all of my work done each week)
I’ve learned the past few years … more than ever before … (thanks to living in a pandemic and homeschooling children) that I can’t fill my days with appointments, client work, marketing, strategic planning, and admin tasks.
Because when I do, I end up stressed, overwhelmed, and a whole lot of grumpy.
I need what I call white space in my calendar.
definition of white space: the areas of a page without print or pictures. Another example of that is Apple they set the standard for building breathing room into their design.
I know you’re thinking but Darlene I’m not a print magazine I’m a human and to me that translates to needing breathing room in our schedule just for us.
For me this time is blocked out just for me to relax, refresh, exercise, journal, sit out back, read, head to the zoo, bake cookies, watch a show, swim or take a beach day … basically whatever I feel inspired to do.
Some weeks it’s a few random hours throughout the week, and other times it’s an afternoon or a few full days each month.
When I allow myself to have white space and just be, I show up more creative and true to myself.
When was the last time you blocked out white space on your calendar so that you’re able to just be? Think about it, what would it change if you truly allowed yourself to rest, reflect and revive?
My challenge to you this summer is to block out some white space over the next few months, so you can show up as the best version of yourself.
Take 15 minutes and block time into your calendar…. You’ll thank me later.
I promise you’ll get more done, you’ll feel amazing, and the best part is you’ll attract more dream clients into your business.
That's what happens for me (and my clients too!)
